Friday Notes

Sweet and simple-granted, there are so many *f* words that go with Friday-foodie, friendly, freezing, and even fun, among others.

My online buying continues throughout the colder than usual winter weather. So far its been great, no broken bottles or things that don’t belong. I did order some gluten free vanilla wafers by mistake, but they were fine, but once was enough. I’m sure there will be people thrilled to find they can get a favorite treat that’s also gluten free. I know I like to discover new foods I can eat that work with food allergies I have.

TV Highlight: Friday is the night for Pete Nelson in *Treehouse Masters* on Animal Planet. His varied crew members, along with Pete, make this an interesting show. If you haven’t seen it yet, check it out tonight.

Foodie Friday: Its that time of year again, when soup, stew and chilis are the go to meals, whether its for the weekend warriors or a cozy respite from chilly winter weather. I’m hoping to try out some new turkey chili recipes, minus the extra hot spices. I tend to favor no alarm chili recipes. still big on flavor, but not so spicy they make your eyes water. Also, feel free to send your winter meal hints, tips, suggestions or do’s and don’ts for great meals.

Fun Fridays: So its winter and its Friday-and you don’t feel like going out in the cold. So you explore mew hobbies, games, crafts or other past times. How did it work out? I have been a crafter for a while, and its a great break from daily and/or ongoing stress. Any other success stories out there?

New Books: If you’re like me and have exhausted your TBR pile, there are several options. Many libraries are holding book sales though their Friends of Libraries groups. And some book web sites as well as writers have giveaways. Or if you just want to buy some new books, check out favorite bookshops online too. Some shops have book trade options where you can trade in books in good shape for credit towards other books

These are my Friday notes for this week, hope to see you tomorrow.

Thursday Tips

Its still winter in many regions, and many of us are either stuck inside or limited in places we can go. so today I’m recommending new products or yes, tried and true products. And in full disclosure, I am not employed by any companies making these products, I am a consumer just like you.

Tea for You: Twinings is one of those tried and true brands. They’ve been around since 1706, and they have a large selection of loose leaf and tea bag teas. in addition, their website has a history of tea and tea facts. They are available in many grocery stores as well as in specialty shops and online.

Thursday Ads: In many areas, today is the day weekly grocery ads are available. They are a great source for coupons, BOGOs,as well as old favorites and new products. And for the online shoppers, many stores post their weekly ads online.

Reader Feedback: Although its been a while since I posted here, I’m hoping to make this a daily blog. And part of that includes ideas, suggestions and recommendations from people reading this blog.

Here’s wishing everyone reading this a good day, with hot tea, cocoa or coffee and a snack.. And for those of you going through rough times, hugs and prayers, in addition to hot cocoa/beverage and maybe a snack too. And for all the readers out there, I hope some of the suggestions this week have helped you to find new authors and books to read.

Slainte’,

Marta

Midweek Musings

So its Wednesday, as well as being my third day back on this blog.   What’s new?  For me, its lots of new books to catch up on, as well as movies on the to be seen list. Then new foods to try out, too.  But that does not dismiss the tried and true-they’re just as good, not unlike that favorite pair of cozy slippers. So happy Wednesday ,  bloggers and blog fans.

Tonight on TV: The Property Brothers on HGTV, as well as The Amazing Race on CBS. Check your favorite websites for shows not in your local listings.

Books: If its too cold or the car is unavailable, many libraries have Books By Mail. The local library where I live has the option to call in or choose your selections by computer. If you are looking for some new authors or current books by favorite authors, check out *Book Pages*. a publication you can find in many libraries. It can be obtained by subscription too.  Also  look for your favorite writers web sites for new releases and other news.

Midweek Splurge/Treat: If you like dark chocolate. try the Theo bar. It comes in several flavors and is under $4.00.  If your preference is hot cocoa, look for Chatfield Cocoa, which can be found in health food stores as well as some grocery stores. And don’t forget the whipped cream and/or mini marshmallows.

No author of the day, but looking at some new ones to recommend.

I welcome reader suggestions for hobbies, books and new writers. Hope to hear from you soon! Thanks!

Tuesday Treats-Update

If you are one of the many people stranded or stuck indoors by weather, here are some suggestions for indoors activities.

Tuesday TV Pick: Many PBS stations  run a celebrity genealogy show called *Finding Your Roots*, hosted by Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates, Jr.. Its not dull, and the hour flies by quickly.

Winter Recipes Online: The Food Network has a good collection of chili recipes, including ones for beef and turkey. You are sure to find one that you and your family likes. If not, they have other cold weather recipes as well-including sweet treats too.

Two Authors Tuesday

If you like your fiction with interesting plots and  a happy ending, Debbie Macomber is an author you might like. Several of her books have been adapted into Hallmark movies. She also has written knitting books and non fiction.

For cozy mystery fans, there’s Joanne Fluke,  who writes the Hannah Swensen mysteries. If the name sounds familiar, they have been adapted into movies for Hallmark’s Movies and Mysteries channel. An added bonus is recipes mentioned in the mystery.

Hobby Corner

What interests you? Winter seems a good time for indoor pursuits such as knitting crocheting and more recent ones such as kumihimo and macrame’. For some, its time for cookie baking and Super Bowl treats. Feel free to submit ideas for new or traditional hobbies. Book suggestions on hobbies welcome, too.

What’s on board for Wednesday? Too early to say yet, so tune in tomorrow and see.

Almost Seven Years Later..

Forget about that time flies thing, I *definitely* needed to get back to blogging.  I have fallen in love and had a broken heart, lost people I loved and lots of other things, good, bad and indifferent. At this point, I plan to write about some of my favorable experiences in online commerce plus other good things. After all, we do need something useful once in a while. But no things I don’t or won’t eat, do or places I will not go. Everyone has limits, and I’m not alone in that. My main comments will be on books, foods, online shopping and TV shows and movies.  If anything else pops up, maybe a surprise every so often, too. So here goes!

Last year and so far this year, there has been a lot of iffy weather. As a non driver without a car, that does limit getting out to a large degree. So what do you do? Get online, ask others their experiences and check it out yourself. And so far, so good.

Here are some stores I have shopped with online and had good experiences.

J.C. Penney

The Vitamin Shoppe

Jet. com

Petco.com

Chewy.com

Phone and Online:

L.L. Bean

Please note: there are different minimums to get free shipping, so if you don’t know, don’t be afraid to ask.

Monday TV Note: I missed last week’s episode, but as of pre Christmas 2017,* The Good Doctor* has been one of TV’s more interesting new dramas. I’ll let you know if anything changes.

Movies In Theaters I Would Like To See: The one about Charles Dickens writing The Christmas Carol. For the record, I’m also a fan of Hallmark Christmas movies as well as some of their romantic comedies and mysteries. And I  like chocolate too.

Foodie Shows: Food  network’s Worst Cooks show started last week, you might be able to catch the previous two shows on the On Demand channel. The Kid Bakers is coming up in February.

Author of The Day: Alexander McCall Smith-he has three books out currently; two in the No. 1  Ladies Detective Agency series, one stand alone about a man who travels abroad and has some interesting adventure with his unique transportation..

Its good to be back and I hope to be here on a more regular basis from now on.

Thank You!

Time Flies?

Well, here it is the 22nd day of February, 2011, and it still seems a bit quiet here. Maybe some Windows Live people don’t know about the change over yet. I sure would like to hear from real people instead of bots…Hope to see some Windows friends, sooner rather than lately…

Well, It Has Been A While-What’s New With Me

Well, it has been a while since my last post. Things have really changed since then-I’ve started dating again, which is akin to pulling out finger nails as far as I’m concerned. I’m still looking for an old fashioned man who knows what a date is, not always easy…I’ve encountered some great but shy men, which is actually something new for me.  I’m used to more flirty men. I guess you could say I’m learning new skills. I also have added a second cat to my household, he’s a sweetie, but not street smart enough to be living at the local deli, where he was a favorite of many of the patrons there. His  name is Mikey, and he’s probably the largest cat I’ve ever owned. Mikey is an orange tabby, and quite a character!

I have some new projects coming up, I ‘ll let you know when I have more done. I’m also doing some changes in my apartment, hope to finish in the next month or so…

Well, until next time, keep up the good work! Thanks for reading with me!
